The Cologne Spring Meeting has been established in the early sixties. Since then, outstanding speakers have always attracted a large international audience to this annual meeting. It is organized by members of the Institute for Genetics in Cologne and is in each year dedicated to a different specific topic in the field of Genetics. In addition to talks given by invited speakers there is ample opportunity for scientific discussions. In 2011, the Cologne Spring Meeting is at the same time the International Meeting of the Cluster of Excellence on Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-Associated Diseases (CECAD). The topic of the 2011 meeting will be “Model Systems of Ageing”. The aim is to bring together a diverse set of top notch scientists who investigate the central areas of aging research in various model systems ranging from fungi, nematodes, fruit flies to mammalian disease models. The topics will include proteostasis and neurodegeneration, stem cell ageing, genome instability and DNA repair, endocrinology and metabolism. Coverage of these topics will provide a comprehensive overview on recent advances and novel direction in the studies of the control of Ageing and Longevity. This topic should be of interest to many students and researchers in various areas of the life science because of the importance of the relevant mechanisms for the understanding of numerous age-related human diseases. |
